What you will learn...
This 2-day course teaches students and auditors ground exercises such as controlling
forward movement, gait control, changing direction, the outside turn, the inside turn,
working outside of the round pen, and overcoming obstacles. These exercises are essential
to gaining your horse’s trust and respect as well as giving students a completely new
understanding of their horse’s motivations and attitudes. This course also includes a mini
course on stretches for horse and rider.
Students and their horses perform the exercises in one of the three classrooms
(round pens), a good portion of their education comes from interacting with other students
and their horses. Students are divided into three teams and each team is assigned to a classroom.
The clinic will start at 8:30 and wrap up for the day at 4:30 both Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a lunch break mid-day.
The goal of this clinic is for individuals to be able to perform all of the covered
topics and exercises when they go home.

Raleigh County 4-H Horse Camp
What: Raleigh County 4-H Horse Camp
When: July 25th-31st 2010
Where: In Raleigh County WV near the Daniels/Crow/Shady Spring WV area
Who: For ANY 4-H Member from ANYWHERE who has a horse they can ride and handle to bring with

8-19. This camp focuses on education and personal development in fun, nontraditional environments.
In keeping with the original purpose of 4-H to develop agricultural skills in youth, the Raleigh
County Horse 4-H Camp was designed to provide 4-H members a safe and friendly environment in which
to develop correct riding, showing, handling, and caretaking skills. Acquiring these skills help
youth develop the concepts of responsibility, dedication, and hard work. In addition, campers will
have the opportunity to make friends with those who share in their interest of 4-H and horses.
At camp, campers listen and engage in presentations by equine professionals such as equine
nutritionist, trainers, and veterinarians. They also get instructional time daily with their horse
to help them improve their showmanship, equitation, riding and training skills. Campers get feed 3
quality hot fresh meals each day in addition to at least one snack and the cabins are fairly nice
with beds and warm water. Campers also play games, sing, make life-long friends and memories, create
quality crafts they will want to keep for a lifetime, and have a campfire/council circle every night
and much, much more! Raleigh County Horse 4-H Camp will be held at Raleigh County 4-H Camp and the
Raleigh County Horseman’s Association near Daniels, West Virginia the last week of July 2010. The
camp fee is very affordable.
